geek entertainment and travel for today’s modern family
Meet the Mahoney’s. We’re a modern geek family out to challenge ourselves to Learn. Discover. Play. Together! Kat is geekmom, having majored in Computer Science at Hawaii Pacific University, she was a social media and web developer turned Video Game Journalist, and currently still does speaking engagements on Tech Safety, Security, and Modern Parenting. CJ is geekdad, having served in the US Air Force for 24 years as a Flight Engineer before retiring to become a Foreman at a Cement Engineering Facility. The three geekheads are Nova, Alex, and Rob, our computer, film, and aerospace junkies, so STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) has always been a part of our household.
Have Geeks Will Travel!
Aside from being geeks, we also travel around the nation since we were military we had to move every 2 years. Now that we’re retired, all year long we still take road trips, vacations, and glamping in our travel trailer. It’s especially relaxing and educational for us because CJ and two of our three geekheads have Autism (Aspergers Syndrome) and Kat has anxiety disorder and OCD. Technology, traveling, photography, and geek entertainment help us all cope with our mental stresses, which in turn help us better understand each other.
Discover. Learn. Play. Together.
As a family we enjoy traveling, video games, board games, cosplay, Science & Technology, as well as Art & Photography. But of all our hobbies, we have learned that our children become better people when they travel and do things as a family together. Kids appreciate more of what they have. They learn to cope with changes, try new things, and compromise despite differences. Discovering the world allows our children to discover themselves as well, and they bring more to society when they know a whole world is waiting for them out there. So we encourage families to take some time and enjoy life together.
